Arakurayama Sengen Park is located in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture, and is a popular scenic spot known for its views of Mount Fuji, the five-storied pagoda, and, in spring, cherry blossoms.

The express train “Fuji Excursion” departing from Shinjuku Station will take you to Shimoyoshida Station, the nearest station to Arakurayama Sengen Park, in less than two hours. From Shimoyoshida Station, the park can be reached on foot in about 10 minutes.

Arakurayama Sengen Park

Arakurayama Sengen Park was established in 1959 on the hillside of Mount Arakura.
In addition, Arakurayama Sengen Park is part of the Arakura Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine grounds.

Arakurayama Sengen Park, which is a strolling spot for local residents, approximately 650 cherry trees are planted.
After climbing 398 steps, you will see a five-story pagoda called “Chureito Pagoda (a pagoda enshrining the spirits who died in the wars)”, which is the symbol of Fujiyoshida City.

Further ahead is an observatory from which one can view the Chureito Pagoda, the city of Fujiyoshida, and Mount Fuji.
The observatory was renovated in February 2022 and is wider than the previous observatory.

At Arakurayama Sengen Park, “Arakurayama Sengen Park Cherry Blossom Festival” is held from early to mid-April, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.Food trucks and other stands are set up at the foot of Mount Arakura.

Because of the large number of visitors, especially during this time of year, there are restrictions on admission to the observatory and time limits.
Depending on the timing, visitors may have to wait an hour or more to enter the observatory.

Arakura Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine is a historic shrine founded in 705 located on Mount Arakura.
Arakura Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine enshrines Konohanasakuya-hime-no Mikoto, Oyamazumi-no Mikoto, and Ninigi-no Mikoto.
It is said to offer various blessings, including prayers to ward off bad luck, for family safety, for good luck, and for victory.
