Mount Tobio in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a mountain known for its hiking and observation tower. From the observation tower, you can enjoy the panoramic view of Kanagawa and Tokyo.
It is not easily accessible, taking about 40 minutes on foot and by bus from Hon-Atsugi Station, one of the best views in Kanagawa Prefecture can be seen from the observatory.

Entrance of Mount Tobio
Mount Tobio is 234 meters above sea level, and there is a well-maintained hiking trail that takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete.
There are several entrances to hiking trails on Mount Tobio, but the most common starting point is Tenrandai Park.
Konpira Shrine
Along the hiking trail, there is a small-looking but historic Konpira Shrine, which was first built in 1650, and a sightseeing observatory, which will be described later.
In addition, many cherry trees are planted in the plaza at the top of the mountain, and visitors can enjoy viewing the cherry blossoms during the cherry blossom season in spring.
Mount Tobio Observation Tower
After about 25 minutes on the hiking trail from Tenrandai Park at the foot of the mountain, you will see the distinctive observation tower.
Climbing the 74 spiral stairs, you will be rewarded with a spectacular view of Kanagawa Prefecture.
On a clear day, you can see the Minato Mirai Area in Yokohama City, Enoshima Island in Fujisawa City, and looking east, the buildings of Shinjuku Subcenter Area, Tokyo Tower, and even the Tokyo Sky Tree from the observatory.
Night view
Mount Tobio Observation Tower offers one of the best night views of Kanagawa Prefecture.
However, you have to walk a pitch dark hiking trail, a flashlight is essential, and take extra care when visiting at night.
