Kikuseidai is an observatory located in Nada-ku, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, and is known for its spectacular view of Kobe City and, on a clear day, the direction of Osaka.
The night view from Kikuseidai, which offers a panoramic view of the lights of Kobe City spreading to the eye under a starlit sky, is designated as one of the three best night views in Japan, along with Hakodate (Hokkaido) and Nagasaki (Nagasaki Prefecture).
The name “Kikuseidai” comes from the fact that the observatory offers such a beautiful view of the starry sky that one can almost reach out and scoop up the stars.
Maya Viewline (Maya Cable Car and Maya Ropeway)

The cable car and ropeway (collectively called the Maya Viewline) from the foot of Mount Maya take you to Kikuseidai, which is located 690 meters above sea level.
The round-trip fare from Maya Cable Station to Niji no Eki Station to Hoshi no Eki is 1,560 yen for adults and 780 yen for children (6-11 years old).
Maya Ropeway
The Maya View Line is generally closed on Tuesdays, and its hours of operation vary depending on the season.

To reach Kikuseidai, take a bus from Sannomiya, Shin-Kobe, Rokko, Rokkomichi, or Nada Station to the Maya Cable Shita bus stop, then take the Maya Cable and Maya Ropeway to Hoshi no Eki Station.
The bus ride takes about 12 to 30 minutes, depending on the point of departure. Also, Maya Cable and Maya Ropeway take 5 minutes each.
