The Tenjin Matsuri (Tenjin Festival) at Osaka Temmangu Shrine is one of the Three Great festivals in Japan, along with the Gion Festival held at Yasaka Shrine (Kyoto) and the Kanda Festival held at Kanda Shrine (Tokyo).
Tenjin Matsuri is said to have started in 951, and has a history of more than 1,000 years as a summer tradition in Osaka.
As part of the month-long Tenjin Matsuri (the main event is held on July 24 and 25), a votive fireworks is held.
