Hokoten refers to a situation in which a section of a downtown area is closed to vehicular traffic for a period of time, allowing pedestrians to walk along the entire street, including the roadways.
Hokoten takes place mainly on downtown streets and is also called “pedestrian paradise”.
In Tokyo, hokoten is particularly famous in Ginza, Akihabara, and Shinjuku.
