Yubatake (hot water fields)
One of the most iconic tourist attractions in Kusatsu Onsen is Yubatake.
At Yubatake, the source of Kusatsu Onsen, which boasts Japan’s largest hot spring water output, is constantly flowing and can be seen billowing up a cloud of steam.
There are many restaurants and souvenir shops in the vicinity, making it a must-visit spot.
Yubatake Light up
The area is illuminated at night, creating a fantastic atmosphere, so a night stroll is also recommended.
Yumomi
At Atsunoyu, located near Yubata, visitors can watch a yumomi show.
Yumomi was conceived to lower the temperature of Kusatsu Onsen hot spring water, which is nearly 50 degrees Celsius, to a temperature at which bathing is possible without adding water.
Specifically, the temperature is lowered by placing a wooden paddle approximately 180cm in length into the hot spring source and rubing the hot water.
Sainokawara Park
On the west side of Yubatake is Sainokawara Park, where the hot spring water gushes out and flows like a river.
In addition to the Kusatsu Anamori Inari Shrine in the park, visitors can also enjoy a footbath.
The Sainokawara Park is also illuminated at night.
