Tonkatsu is a deep-fried pork-based dish with its roots in the French Cutlet.
Thick slices of pork loin or fillet are coated with flour, beaten egg, and bread crumbs and deep fried in cooking oil.

Tonkatsu is usually served with tonkatsu sauce, but there are also other ways to eat tonkatsu, such as Miso Katsu topped with miso (soybean paste) or Tare Katsu dipped in sweet and spicy soy sauc sauce.

Other variations of tonkatsu dishes include Katsudon (pork cutlet on top of a bowl of rice) and Katsu Curry (pork cutlet combined with curry).
